The first group of performers for this year’s NBHD Festival in Manchester has been revealed, with Pale Waves, ADMT, and The Mysterines leading the lineup. Taking place on October 4 across 16 venues in the city centre, the festival will showcase a variety of talent including Antony Szmierek, Corella, Louis Dunford, Red Rum Club, Seb Lowe, Picture Parlour, Chappaqua Wrestling, FEET, Pixey, and Overpass.
More acts are anticipated to be announced as time goes on. The Mysterines are preparing to release their new album ‘Afraid Of Tomorrows’ on June 7, while Pale Waves are working on their fourth album, which they claim will be their best yet. Pale Waves vocalist Heather Baron-Gracie has hinted that the group’s forthcoming album will break new ground for them.
The festival is set to take place in venues such as Albert Hall, Gorilla and O2 Ritz, among others. The Mysterines’ 2022 debut album ‘Reeling’ had massive hooks and big singalongs while ‘Afraid Of Tomorrows’ sees the band leaning more on their psych, grunge and alternative influences. Pale Waves, on the other hand, has been dubbed by critics as “emo-goth synth-pop” and has cited artists such as The Cranberries, The 1975, and Depeche Mode as influences.
During an interview with NME, The Mysterines’ vocalist Lia Metcalfe shared that ‘Afraid Of Tomorrows’ holds a lot of darkness and there’s more weight to it than ‘Reeling’, which was driven by character and narrative. She also explained that there’s a lot of fear and paranoia across the album, but it takes listeners on a journey to the title track, which sees the band attempting to end things on a happier note
