A new Guinness World Record has been set by a group of 342 dachshunds in London. The dogs and their owners gathered at Marble Hill House in Twickenham for the Largest Dachshund Dog Walk charity event, which was held to raise funds for animal rescue and rehoming centres. The event was organised by pet insurer Agria and supported by English Heritage and The Kennel Club. The assembled canines beat the previous record of 250 dogs to take the title.
The dogs came in all shapes and sizes and sported an array of colourful harnesses, bows, cones, and even puppy pushchairs. Guinness World Records praised the event organisers and said the owners were “a truly devoted bunch”. Checks and procedures were put in place by Guinness World Records officials to count the dogs, with blue wristbands distinguishing those who wanted their dogs to be counted in the challenge.
The London event was part of a wider initiative that involved fund-raising events in Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Norway and Sweden. A total of £20,000 was raised for animal rescue and rehoming centres from funds generated by the events. The London event was attended by model and animal welfare campaigner Jodie Kidd and her dachshund Sausage.
Vicki Wentworth, Chief Executive at Agria, said the company was “thrilled” to set the Guinness World Record. She said it was “an absolute pleasure to watch so many passionate people and pups come together to help support a great cause”.
