Hard-Fi tease mysterious date: “Don’t go making plans”

UK indie-rock band, Hard-Fi, have teased a potential surprise for May 20, 2024. The yellow backdrop with a singular date may hint at forthcoming new music after the band announced their return last year with a tour celebrating 15 years of their number one selling album, ‘Stars of CCTV’. The tour sold out in just 10 minutes, encouraging them to announce their first full UK tour in 11 years in May 2021, playing cities such as London, Liverpool, and Sheffield later that year.

The band teased new material when they sat down with NME last year, and with the potential unveiling of new music on the horizon, they have reportedly been working on new tracks that are “all over the place”. Frontman Richard Archer has shared that there is “new stuff… sat for a while now” and that the band is still “trying to work out what it is that Hard-Fi wants to say now”. Archer also spoke about the developing sound stating, “there’s always going to be certain things that sound like us, so there will always be elements of that. But it’d be interesting to just try different stuff.”

As the band has been experimenting with synthesizers, it remains uncertain what their future sound will sound like. However, Archer explains, “…often you’ll do something and you’ll go, ‘That doesn’t sound like a Hard-Fi song’ and it becomes something else and sometimes you’ll do something that’s like, ‘That’s not what I’d expect a Hard-Fi record to be but it seems to fit somehow’.” Therefore, fans can expect Hard-Fi’s new tracks to be different, yet similar to their early hits.
