Slipknot fans have generated a new name for the mystery member who replaced keyboardist and sampler Craig Jones last year. After the band unveiled their new masks this week, the new member was only listed as ‘Samples/Media’ on Instagram, leading fans to refer to him as ‘Samples’. The new member’s identity has been a mystery ever since they were introduced almost immediately after Jones’ departure was announced almost a year ago. During this time, fans have given possible names and nicknames for him, such as ‘Greg Bones’, ‘The Gimp’, ‘Leatherface’, ‘Zipper Dude,’ and ‘Hoodie Guy’.
Slipknot has previously taken a long time to identify new members. For example, before Eloy Casagrande was confirmed as the band’s new drummer to replace the outgoing Jay Weinberg, fans were left to speculate who it could be – many assumed it was Casagrande long before the official announcement. Slipknot and Casagrande have already written a song together called ‘Long May You Die’ since he joined the band.
Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan, a founding member of Slipknot, shared what the band has planned for 2024. In an interview with NME at the end of last year, he said, “We’re going back to basics. I’m ready to kick everybody in the face again! I’m ready to do a 100-person venue again! I’m ready to do a 500-person venue…” After the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted live music for over a year, fans have enthusiastically welcomed this statement.
Guitarist Jim Root recently recounted how Casagrande was chosen as the band’s new drummer, saying that the band didn’t consider auditioning anyone else for the role. The band has also announced their ‘Here Comes The Pain’ 25th anniversary US tour with Knocked Loose and more
