Les Savy Fav’s frontman Tim Harrington revealed that the band’s first album in 14 years, ‘OUI LSF’, was influenced by his bipolar diagnosis. During the band’s extended hiatus, Harrington worked on children’s books, and their bassist and guitarist, Syd Butler and Seth Jabour, respectively, joined the 8G Band, a house musician group for the talk show ‘Late Night With Seth Myers’. Their drummer Harrison Haynes concentrated on fine art, and guitarist Andrew Reuland worked in film and television.
Haynes endured a tough time with his mental health after his bipolar diagnosis. He stated that some creative people have confessed that when they started taking medication for their mental health issues, they believed their creativity disappeared. In his case, he discovered that creativity was always present in him. Haynes shared that the absence of turmoil in his mind created the feeling of ‘nothing happening’, but, in fact, it was he who had changed and not his creativity.
The band returned for live shows during the break and officially started recording after their appearance at Primavera Sound in 2022. When drummer Haynes couldn’t make the show, the band recruited stand-in Tucker Rule of post-hardcore group ‘Thursday’, who learned the songs for the first time
