A Manchester Crown Court jury has found school teacher, Rebecca Joynes, guilty of six counts of sexual assault involving two male pupils. More specifically, Joynes was convicted of four counts of sexual activity with Boy A and two of sexual activity with Boy B. The jury heard that Joynes had been suspended when the school discovered she was having a sexual relationship with Boy A before going on to strike up a consensual affair with Boy B. As a 16-year old, Boy B and Joynes entered a sexual relationship and Joynes fell pregnant by him.

Joynes had previously denied all allegations of any sexual activity with the boys, telling Boy B at one point that she didn’t believe it was possible for her to conceive. Following the discovery of her relationship with Boy A, Joynes was given bail on condition that she had no unsupervised contact with anyone aged under 18 years old.

The charges against Joynes, who is currently in her thirties, relate to offences that are said to have taken place during her time at Sale’s St. Anne’s Academy. She will now be sentenced in January when the court has considered her probation report. Thus far, the academy in question has made no comment on the case
