Wunderhorse, a talented British rock band, have released their second album, Midas in 2024, following the success of their debut album, Cub. The band has been dubbed the “next big thing” and the new album is considered a statement of their artistic might. Wunderhorse’s latest single, July, is a dark ballad with grunge undertones that echoes Nirvana. The album was produced in Minnesota’s Pachyderm Studio, the same birthplace as In Utero by Nirvana and Rid Of Me by PJ Harvey.
Jacob Slater, the frontman, described the recording process of Midas as a desire to evoke the coarse, organic power of their live shows: “very imperfect, very live, very raw; no frills. We wanted it to sound like your face is pressed up against the amplifiers, like you’ve been locked inside the bass drum”. The band have shown a lot of spirit and tenacity in the production of the album, which is evident in its sonic grit and sweat.
The release of Midas is expected to take Wunderhorse to a new level in the indie rock scene as a catalyst for their deserved elevation to a new class of supremacy. The band is made up of Jacob Slater, Harry Fowler, Jamie Staples, and Peter Woodin.
The album is available on Communion in August 2024. Wunderhorse is part of Rough Trade On The Rise, which highlights emerging music from the most exciting artists for listeners to follow and become fans of. On Rough Trade, Midas is available on a Rough Trade Exclusive yellow vinyl along with a bonus 7″. The album’s sound is big, enlivening and intentional, a reflection of the raw and powerful live shows the band have been applauded for.
The band’s success, combined with the already existing buzz, means that Wunderhorse is a band to watch as they continue to grow their brand and their music. Despite only having two albums under their belt, Wunderhorse has left a lasting impression on the music industry with their signature raw, organic and gritty sounds
