Slovakia’s Prime Minister, Robert Fico, has been shot multiple times, sustaining wounds to the chest, abdomen and left arm while attending a government meeting in the central town of Handlova. The 52-year-old politician was rushed to a clinic in Bratislava, where he underwent surgery. A 71-year-old man was detained at the scene, although he has not yet been identified. President Andrej Kiska has called on Slovaks not to speculate on the attack.
Labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer, dominates the front pages of newspapers with promises to woo voters ahead of the general election later this year.
