The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have had their charitable Archewell Foundation reinstated by US authorities after being issued with a warning over their registration status. A spokesperson for the couple confirmed that the charity was now fully compliant and that all payments had been made on time. The Department of Justice in California sent a warning letter to the foundation relating to the registration process, but the charity now says that all necessary paperwork has been completed without error or wrongdoing.

A few days ago, the Duke and Duchess’ spokesperson confirmed that although all registration documents had been submitted on time, the payment cheque had not been received. The issue was rectified as soon as the foundation was notified of the problem; a new cheque was sent and the charity now appears to be operating without issue.

Tax filings for 2022 indicated that Archewell holds $11m (£9m) in assets and donated $1.2m (£960,000) last year. Beneficiaries included the Halo Trust, a mine-clearing charity supported by Princess Diana, which received a $100,000 (£80,000) donation. Other projects funded by the foundation included a gender justice initiative in Washington ($200,000/ £160,000), alongside donations of $125,000 (£100,000) to a civil-rights charity and $100,000 (£80,000) for a project promoting responsible tech use.

Archewell was established after the couple moved to the US, where they stopped working as UK royals. Earlier this year, the Office of Prince Harry and Meghan was launched alongside a new website, sussex.com. The royal pair have recently returned from a visit to Nigeria, where they participated in celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games
