‘After Life’ star Ethan Lawrence close to quitting acting after 18 months without work

British actor Ethan Lawrence, best known for his roles in “After Life” and “Bad Education,” has confessed he is contemplating leaving acting after a period of obscurity. In a video on TikTok, he explained how a “really bad year” in 2024 and his landlord’s decision to sell his house beneath him prompted him to consider quitting. Furthermore, his personal issues, along with the absence of acting work for almost 18 months, have added to his decision to quit acting. He said the lack of work wasn’t unique to him as the entertainment industry suffers from a lack of job opportunities, commenting that 70% of people employed within the industry remain unemployed.

Lawrence openly expressed his concern regarding the industry’s state, despite the creative industry being one of the biggest in the UK. There aren’t an adequate amount of jobs, which is baffling to him. Despite having some of the best years of his life professionally just a couple of years ago, he has come to a realization this year that he doesn’t own anything outside of his filmed evidence of what he’s done and is in a constant state of financial uncertainty.

Lawrence has starred in several films, including “Bad Education” and “Magic Mike’s Last Dance,” and his most recent acting job was in the 2023 thriller miniseries “Boat Story.” He stated that he is willing to do part-time or temporary work if he has to. However, it might be time for him to quit acting if things don’t improve as he is getting older and slower.

While Lawrence’s decision may seem sudden, he remarked that he has reached a point where relying on anything is risky, and he needs to make a decision as to whether he will continue acting since he is no longer in the position to continue living like this. In his opinion, the lockdown heavily impacted the industry. Despite attempting to continue with acting, he appears to have reached his limit. Therefore, the decision to quit may be the only sensible one if things don’t improve soon
