Slipknot guitarist Jim Root has divulged the details of how Eloy Casagrande became the band’s new drummer. In April, Casagrande was identified as Jay Weinberg’s replacement, who was let go in late 2021. Since joining the group, Casagrande has opened up about his decision to leave Brazilian metal titans Sepultura for Slipknot. Root shared in a recent interview how the band first met Casagrande and the new material they are creating with their newest member.
According to Root, the band played two shows in late April to introduce their new drummer to the world. The guitarist also spoke about their secret show in Pioneertown and Sick New World, where they headlined. Root said that his next priority was to get into writing mode so they could create music worthy of the new addition’s drumming skill since he is a world-class drummer.
During an interview with Tone-Talk, a fan asked Root how the band got connected with Casagrande. The guitarist shared that they didn’t try anybody else, Casagrande’s name came up, and Vman, Slipknot’s bassist, put them in touch. Casagrande started sending them a bunch of videos, and it was a no-brainer to extend him an invitation to join.
Casagrande made his debut with Slipknot during a last-minute intimate club show at the Pappy + Harriet’s barbecue bar in California on April 25. The surprise gig was announced one day before the show date. Later that week, they headlined the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas. The band’s percussionist and founding member, Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan, has previously mentioned that the band aimed at going back to basics this year to celebrate their 25th anniversary.
In conclusion, Slipknot has found a new drummer, Eloy Casagrande, who joined the band after leaving Brazilian metal legends Sepultura. Slipknot’s guitarist, Jim Root, spoke about the auditioning process with Casagrande and how he was confirmed into the band in a recent interview. The group has also showcased Casagrande during secret gigs, and they plan to start working on new material with him soon. The band’s plans for 2024 are still unconfirmed, and fans are eagerly waiting to hear more
