The Last Dinner Party announce autumn 2024 European tour

London-based band The Last Dinner Party will embark on a European tour this autumn, beginning on October 28 in Paris. They will play in cities across the continent, including Brussels, Amsterdam, Cologne, Munich, Lyon, Berlin and Luxembourg. The tour, which will conclude on November 16 in Luxembourg, follows the band’s UK tour in September and October, which is already sold out. A ticket pre-sale will start on May 15 for fans who have already pre-ordered the band’s latest album, Prelude to Ecstasy, from its official website. General sales will follow two days later.

While the group is known for its original music and collaborated with the percussionist from Stomp on one of its tracks, they have also performed the classic This Town Ain’t Big Enough for the Both of Us, originally by Sparks. Guitarist Emily Roberts said that the band became “obsessed” with the US art rockers after a friend sent that particular song to her. “We thought it was about time we did something with the song,” the band said.

Last year, The Last Dinner Party attracted attention when singer Abigail Morris gave an interview about the difficulties of living hand to mouth in today’s world. When the comments were denounced in a social media backlash, bassist Georgia Davies later explained that Morris’ words had been taken out of context. “It’s disappointing to us that it’s been presented in this way,” Davies said.

In a chat with music magazine NME during the Brit Awards, the band members praised St Vincent, with guitarist Emily Roberts explaining that she plays the musician’s guitar. She also said that the influence of St Vincent can be heard in Prelude to Ecstasy, particularly in the guitar line for a song called Sinner, which had been inspired by one of St Vincent’s songs, Marrow. “So she’s a big inspiration!” said Roberts.

The Last Dinner Party was formed in 2017 and has achieved increasing success in the past year, joining the line-up of the Great Escape festival in the south of England in May 2021. The seven-piece group is known for its avant-garde approach, incorporating unusual instruments such as a bass clarinet and an accordion into its music. The band released its first album, The Last Dinner Party, in 2019, which was highly acclaimed by critics.
