David Gilmour, the former Pink Floyd guitarist and solo artist, has revealed a show at a historical Rome landmark, as well as a number of shows in North America. Gilmour is set to return to perform to the legendary Italian city’s chariot-racing stadium, Circus Maximus, for a six-night residency from September 27 through October 3 – the same location which saw his Rattle That Lock Tour in 2016. Prior to this, he will also play a six-night residency at London’s Royal Albert Hall, commencing on October 9. Additionally, Gilmour will perform in Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles on October 29 and 30, before concluding his North American tour with two nights at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on November 4 and 5.
Tickets for both the Rome and North American shows will be available for purchase on Friday, May 17 at 10 am local time. The shows have been much anticipated in the musical world, particularly as it marks Gilmour’s return to the Circus Maximus.
Gilmour recently shared his plans to return to the stage and discussed the changes that he has made to the touring band. “It was all too robotic, and some people would have been better off in a Pink Floyd tribute band,” Gilmour noted. His plan is to bring in people who are genuinely creative and give them more freedom. Consequently, the band will include some of the younger musicians alongside Guy Pratt and the Webb Sisters.
The forthcoming album, ‘Luck And Strange’, marks the musician’s return to the solo stage after nine years, following 2015’s ‘Rattle That Lock’. The album was co-produced by Gilmour and Charlie Andrew who has previously worked with Alt-J and Wolf Alice. Gilmour spoke about the pair’s new working relationship in a press release, explaining that Andrew questioned why a section needed a guitar solo and if all the songs had to fade out, saying, “He has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine”.
David Gilmour’s shows are recommended for any music enthusiasts. Given the popularity of his previous tours at the Royal Albert Hall and Circus Maximus, supporters have every right to anticipate each show
