Kep1er, the K-pop girl group, is set to release their latest and possibly final album titled ‘Kep1going On’ on June 3 at 6pm KST. The announcement was made by their record label WAKEONE, which also released an animated teaser for the album. The album’s release date is about a month prior to the group’s purported disbandment in July, following a two-year contract after the group made their official debut in January 2022.
Previously, WAKEONE had announced that discussions were still underway in late April, regarding the extension of the group’s contract beyond their imminent disbandment. However, no concrete updates have been provided since then on the discussion. Last month, WAKEONE had also announced that they were “in positive discussions with each member’s agency to extend the group contract.”
In February, the K-pop girl group had teased the ‘2024 Kep1ine’, which would mark their final releases as a full unit before they are due to disband if a contract extension is not finalised. The release would include two albums, one in Japanese and the other in Korean. The group’s contracts as a temporary project are due to officially expire this year on July 3. This was a condition set by the survival show that led to the formation of Kep1er, ‘Girls Planet 999’, which stipulated that the winning line-up would embark on a two-and-a-half-year contract when the show concluded in October 2021.
Despite their imminent disbandment, the excitement for ‘Kep1going On’ is still high among fans. The group’s animated teaser for the latest album has already been viewed by thousands of fans and promises to be a fitting final release for the talented K-pop girl group
