Lili Myers has given an interview to BBC Radio Cumbria where she talked about missing her husband Dave Myers and how participating in Dave Day on 8 June would be a way to celebrate his life. Dave, who was one half of the Hairy Bikers duo, passed away more than two months ago due to cancer at the age of 66. Dave Day will see thousands of bikers travel from London to Myers’ home town of Barrow to raise money for charity. Lili Myers called her husband a genuinely beautiful man, adding that he completed her.

The couple first met in Romania when Lili had to take over on the production side as their local producer had let them down. They kept in touch for two years via email while Dave and Si King were filming in various countries like India, Turkey, Mexico and Argentina. When they reunited in Barrow, Dave cooked Lili a meal; she said that Dave put all his soul into that sandwich, which was delicious. They were married in 2011. Lili Myers also said that while Dave was best known for his work with Si King, he was also part of the cast of the 2013 series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Lili Myers spoke of how difficult it was to watch her husband deteriorate but was in awe of how he found the strength to film more episodes while undergoing chemotherapy. She shared how she had driven Dave to various filming locations and then back to the hospital for treatment. She had encouraged him to keep filming because it was his life. Lili Myers is looking forward to Dave Day, which she started after friends and family asked if there would be a bike ride in Dave’s memory. It will raise money for the NSPCC children’s charity and Cancer Research, and thousands of bikers are expected to participate.

Barrow residents have offered accommodation to bikers who are attending Dave Day and Ms Myers is thrilled at the warm reception. She initially set up the event to give back to the town that they loved and was honoured by the outpouring of support. She apologized to those driving on the M6 that day, as it is expected to be extremely busy. Lili Myers says that while it feels like she is not mourning on her own, she doesn’t use the word “mourning” as she sees Dave Day as a celebration with the nation. She believes that Dave would have loved this event and is watching from where he is and laughing
