After 20 years of evading justice, the mastermind behind an armed robbery that resulted in the death of a police officer has been sentenced to life in prison. Piran Ditta Khan, aged 75, was found guilty of murder in the case involving the slaying of PC Sharon Beshenivsky in Bradford, West Yorkshire. Khan was extradited from Pakistan last year to stand trial at Leeds Crown Court. He has been ordered to serve a minimum of 40 years in prison.

In 2005, PCs Beshenivsky and Teresa Milburn were called to respond to an armed robbery at a local travel agency. In the course of their duties, PC Beshenivsky was fatally attacked, while her colleague, PC Milburn, suffered serious injuries. The Honourable Mr Justice Hilliard, presiding over the case, lauded PC Beshenivsky’s courage and dedication in the line of duty.
