During an interview with The Guardian, actor Ian McShane revealed that he once shared a spliff with music producer Trevor Horn before recording the opening of Grace Jones’ ‘Slave To The Rhythm’ in 1985. McShane, famous for his parts in ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ and ‘Deadwood’, among others, spoke fondly about Horn and their meeting at a restaurant in Notting Hill Gate. “He was at another table and said: ‘Ian, how are you? What are you doing after dinner? Do you want to come over and do something?’” McShane recounted, before revealing the pair “went back in the studio, smoked a large spliff, and did the opening of ‘Slave To The Rhythm’” at Horn’s request.
Horn, who has produced for artists such as Frankie Goes To Hollywood, LeAnn Rimes and Seal, has a long career in the music industry. He famously co-formed Art of Noise and co-wrote ‘Slave To The Rhythm’, which was intended as a single for Frankie Goes To Hollywood, however it was later given to Jones. At the start of the track, McShane can be heard saying: “Ladies and gentleman, Miss Grace Jones, Slave To The Rhythm”.
