While Kendrick Lamar and Drake continue to engage in a feud involving a series of diss tracks, a leaked document online suggested that Universal Music Group (UMG) had decided to intervene and request the two rappers to end their disagreement. According to the document, Zoom meetings with the artists’ labels revealed that UMG perceived Drake to be “losing” the battle of words with Kendrick Lamar. Drake had denied the paedophilia claims made against him and suggested that Lamar’s disses were based on false intelligence fed to him by Drake’s team, in his latest track, ‘The Heart Part 6’.
The feud commenced in March when Lamar responded to J. Cole’s claims on Drake’s track ‘First Person Shooter’ that they were “the big three” by stating “Motherfuck the big three, n****, it’s just big me” in his verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s ‘Like That’. J. Cole later apologised after dissing Lamar with his own track, ‘7 Minute Drill’. Drake’s response included diss tracks like ‘Push Ups’ and ‘Taylor Made Freestyle’, but the use of AI in the latter track, which had Tupac’s vocals emulated, led to the late rapper’s estate threatening legal action. In response, Lamar dropped ‘Euphoria’ and ‘6:16 in LA’.
UMG representatives told TMZ that they did not intend to get involved in Kendrick and Drake’s feud as it was between the two rappers, with Drake’s “losing” the battle not a concern for the label. While the two rappers continue to release more diss tracks, the feud between them shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon
