Liverpool City Council has appointed Cllr Sam East as its new Cabinet Member for Housing. He was formerly Assistant Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Communities, and Streetscene. Cllr Sarah Doyle, who had held the position since 2021, has taken a 12-month sabbatical.
Cllr Liam Robinson, the Council Leader, thanked Cllr Doyle for her remarkable efforts on housing over the past three years. He praised her for being passionate about housing and for playing an important role in advancing projects such as the Local Plan and work on the Council’s housing strategy, as well as initiatives to tackle homelessness. Cllr Robinson also expressed his eagerness to welcome her back to the role in the future. He also welcomed Cllr Sam East to the Cabinet, lauding his capabilities and dedication.
Cllr Doyle said that the decision to take a sabbatical was difficult but the right one for her to make at this time. She was honoured to have served in the position for three years and thanked Cllr Robinson for his support. Meanwhile, Cllr East is excited to take up the position and is determined to meet the Council’s priorities of ensuring that people have access to decent, affordable housing.
