Johnny Marr and James announce joint 2024 North American tour

Johnny Marr and James are set to embark on a North American joint tour later this year. Marr took to social media yesterday to announce the “mega” tour dates, with the shows forming part of his ‘Spirit Power’ tour. The 20-date trek is set to run between September and October, taking in several US cities along with appearances in Canada. Marr and James will play shows in venues such as the Paramount Theatre in Denver, McMenamins Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, and the Brooklyn Paramount Theater. The tour news has been revealed ahead of pre-sale tickets going live on May 8th, while general tickets will be released on May 10th.

Both Marr and James have history, with James supporting The Smiths on their ‘Meat Is Murder’ tour back in 1985. Speaking about touring with James, Marr has said: “We admired them and even did one of their songs in our set. I’ve been a fan of theirs ever since and being out on tour again after 40 years is a really great thing.” James’ frontman Tim Booth added: “We were met with such generosity and kindness that it changed our DNA. Co-headlining an American tour with the true Gent and genius that is Johnny Marr, is an honor and pleasure. We look forward to making magic together.”

This tour comes off the back of Marr’s latest album, ‘Fever Dreams Pts 1-4,’ which was released in 2022. The former Smiths guitarist is also set to perform in a special outdoor headline show in the UK with Suede and Nadine Shah, taking place on August 1st. The event, which will be headlined by Suede, is scheduled to take place in the grounds of Audley End in Saffron Walden, Essex.

For music fans in North America, the tour promises to be one of the biggest highlights of the year, with tickets for the event sure to sell out fast. The announcement has come as a surprise to many but it is sure to excite fans of both Johnny Marr and James. Those interested in seeing the musicians perform together will want to act quickly and secure their tickets as soon as possible
