Irish indie-punk four-piece Sprints have released two singles, ‘Drones’ and ‘Help Me, I’m Spiralling’, as part of their ‘Black Box Sessions’. Recorded during sessions for their critically acclaimed debut album, ‘Letter To Self’, both singles explore themes of uncertainty, anxiety and doubt.
Frontwoman Karla Chubb sings on ‘Drones’: “The graveyards fill, the dancefloors fill/ The bar stools fill, but everyone’s empty.” For the most part, ‘Help Me, I’m Spiralling’ follows a similar structure, capturing an aggressive burst of energy. The latter also comes with an orange-tinged trippy lyric video.
Sprint’s upcoming live shows include festival appearances at Glastonbury, TRNSMT and Boardmasters, as well as support shows for bands such as Idles, Pixies and Gossip. They have also announced a huge run of headline tour dates, which include shows in the US, Europe and the UK.
Talking about fans coming forward about having witnessed the recent sexual assault at one of their gigs, Chubb said: “It’s really important to be vocal about that, because there’s a lot of fear when coming forward that people are going to speculate, deny, twist their own narrative, or minimise what happened. It’s important to make your voice heard and show solidarity.”
The US leg starts in Boston on 25 September before continuing throughout October with eighteen performances lined up across the country with appearances in Nashville, Saltlake City, Los Angeles, and Brooklyn. The UK leg begins on 12 November in Bristol before the band move on to stops across Europe, including Amsterdam, Cologne, Berlin and Brussels, with the dates wrapping up with a gig in Paris on 16 December.
