Sam Fender provides new album update and admits he “rushed” to get ‘Seventeen Going Under’ out

Musician Sam Fender has spoken out about his upcoming new album during an interview on Sky Arts’ Johnson and Knopfler’s Music Legends. The musician admitted that he had previously rushed with his album Seventeen Going Under and would like to ensure his new album is not rushed, but it takes the time it deserves. He believes it is necessary to take the time required to ensure the album is perfect rather than early and subpar. Fender states that he is very happy with what he’s done so far, but he still wants to give it more thought and time to make it stand out.

Fans eagerly awaiting his third album have been expecting it since Fender shared a series of QR codes ahead of his 2023 Newcastle homecoming gigs to celebrate his upcoming record. During the interview, Fender spoke about his work, describing it as “very pretty” with a strong “singer-songwriter” vibe, acknowledging that he had much to write about and didn’t want to push himself to write stadium songs which could end up sounding too forced and amateur.

Fender’s previous album, Seventeen Going Under, was released in 2021, earning four stars from NME. The album showcases Fender’s growth as an artist since his debut album Hypersonic Missiles and being able to process his personal experiences further with age. Since then, Fender has been able to produce several singles such as Iris, Homesick and even a collaboration with The War on Drugs frontman Adam Granduciel.

Fender found great success early, and as he continues to refine his craft, it is no surprise that he is taking his time with the release of his third album. Fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming album and can expect quite a payoff from Fender’s patience and passion for his work
