A police officer has been left with a serious arm injury following a sword attack in Hainault, north-east London, in which a 14-year-old boy was killed. The incident occurred on Tuesday at around 7am, when police were called to reports of a car crashing into a house, followed by multiple stabbings. Four people, including two officers, were injured in the attack. On Wednesday, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the female officer had been in surgery for several hours due to the severity of her wounds. The male officer also suffered serious injuries to his hand.
The suspected attacker, who was seen brandishing a sword, was eventually cornered and Tasered in a front garden. A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently being treated in hospital. Police have said that they do not believe the attack was terror-related and that it was not a “targeted” incident. The suspect’s background is currently being investigated.
The area where the incident occurred is described as a quiet neighbourhood, not known for violent crime. Members of the public who were injured are being treated in hospital, and their conditions are not thought to be life-threatening. The identity of the 14-year-old victim has not yet been released.
According to reports, there were at least 20 police officers at the scene on Wednesday morning, with many conducting investigations and talking to witnesses.
