Cruise line Cunard’s newest ship, Queen Anne, has arrived at its home port of Southampton after setting sail from the Fincantieri Marghera shipyard in Venice. The 3,000-passenger ship is the company’s first new cruise liner in 14 years and is due to embark on its maiden voyage to Lisbon on 28 May. Following a 14-day cruise to the Canary Islands, it plans to embark on a British Isles voyage that includes stops in Edinburgh, Belfast, the Isle of Skye, and Cobh, before a naming ceremony in Liverpool on 3 June.
Queen Anne is a luxury cruise ship with a 113,000-tonne weight and a length of 322.5 metres. It features a Cunard-style design and has 1,225 crew members on board. The liner also contains 4,300 works of art. It joins Cunard’s other queens, Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Victoria, in the company’s impressive fleet.
Katie McAlister, president of Cunard, praised Queen Anne during a traditional handover ceremony at the Italian shipyard in Venice. She stated, “Not only does she reflect the Cunard distinctive style on the outside, the inside perfectly echoes the brand heritage with reimagined, elegant spaces and designs.”
