Elon Musk has shared a teaser clip of X TV, after announcing his plans to transform X – previously known as Twitter – into an “everything app.” The tech tycoon took to his official X/Twitter account on April 29th and posted a video containing a collection of analogue television sets all turning on and showing a black X TV logo against a grey screen. The end of the video clip sees all the screens come together to form one big X TV logo.
The X TV app will allow users to access and stream long-form videos on smart televisions via the app. Reports included that the app will stream via Samsung and Amazon. Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X and former NBC TV executive, shared a tweet earlier this month that revealed the plans for X TV. “From the small screen to the big screen X is changing everything,” she wrote. “Soon we’ll bring real-time, engaging content to your smart TVs with the X TV App. This will be your go-to companion for a high-quality, immersive entertainment experience on a larger screen.”
“We’re still building it, but here’s a sneak peak of what you can expect: Trending Video Algorithm: Stay updated with tailored popular content, AI-Powered Topics: Organize videos by subject for a personalized experience. Seamless, Cross-Device Experience: Start watching on your phone, continue on your TV, Enhanced Video Search: Find content faster with our improved video search, Effortless Casting: Enjoy your favorite videos on the big screen with simple casting from your mobile devices, Wide Availability: Coming soon to most smart TVs.”
In an X all-staff meeting last October, Musk gave insight on his ideas to transform X into an “everything app.” Musk stated, “We’re rapidly transforming the company from what it was, Twitter 1.0, to the everything app… (An) all-inclusive feature set that you can basically do anything you want on our system. Obviously, that’s not to the exclusion of other apps, but I think the fundamental thing that’s missing that would be incredibly useful is a single application that encompasses everything. You can do payments, messages, video, calling, whatever you’d like, from one single, convenient place.” No launch date for X TV has been shared at this time.
Musk also suggested that X/Twitter will charge users a “small fee” to post
