David Gilmour, Pink Floyd’s guitarist, spoke about his opinion of The Beatles’ documentary, Get Back, in a recent interview with Uncut. Gilmour shared that he regularly watches documentaries about bands from the 60s and 70s, including The Beatles, but found Get Back to be a “hard watch.” He specifically noted the documentary’s portrayal of Paul as domineering, John as withdrawn due to the time, and George leaving and returning.

Despite Gilmour’s criticisms, NME praised Get Back as a five-star-worthy documentary written by Peter Jackson. NME’s review of Get Back described slow moments as giving the most enjoyment and mentioned close-ups of Ringo playing “Octopus’s Garden” on the piano. The review stated that the documentary’s achievements come from its lax editorial policy; it did not attempt to say anything new about The Beatles in 2021 but instead gave the viewers the raw footage to enjoy.

David Gilmour recently announced his first solo album in 9 years, Luck and Strange. David and Charlie Andrew produced the record, who has worked with Alt-J and Wolf Alice. Gilmour stated that Andrew has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for his past. Gilmour appreciated Andrew’s direct approach to creating the album, explaining that he did not want people deferring to him.

Finally, Gilmour recently contributed to a star-studded cover of Mark Knopfler’s “Going Home” for Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America
