Johannesburg-based musician Tyler ICU has teamed up with several artists, including LeeMcKrazy, DJ Maphorisa, Ceeka RSA, Tiiger, Tyrone Dee, Al Xapo, and Jay Sax, to release his latest single titled “Government”. The track, which came out on April 26, is the first single from Tyler ICU’s forthcoming project. The musician said the song is about addressing the issue of South Africa’s government not investing in arts and encouraging youth to find ways of investing in their own artistic careers.
“Government sets the tone for the upcoming project because all the songs are more tackling speaking out, like voices of me speaking out of my stories, my emotions,” said Tyler ICU, who gained fame with the multi-platinum hit “Mnike”. The song was a massive success for the amapiano artist, amassing close to 100 million audio streams and 6 billion TikTok streams, which also featured in Mixmag’s best dancefloor bangers of the year.
The new track, which explores a change of tone for the musician, features vocals by LeeMcKrazy and was produced alongside amapiano pioneer and Scorpion Kings member DJ Maphorisa, Ceeka RSA, Tyrone Dee, Tiiger, Alxapo and Jay Sax. Tyler ICU is currently touring and has received a nomination for “Best African Act” at the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards. The musician is looking to cement his place as an amapiano household name with his latest project.
Listen to “Government” on all major streaming platforms. Tyler ICU will soon announce more tour dates across the UK, Europe, China, and UAE.
