Bassist Adam Clayton of U2 has officially announced his divorce from his wife of 10 years, Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho. The announcement was made through a spokesperson for the couple who stated that they have separated amicably and that they will continue to co-parent their six-year-old daughter, Alba. Clayton is also a father to a son from a previous relationship.

The couple initially met in de Carvalho’s home country of Brazil before entering into marriage four years later in September 2013. The ceremony was held at a Dublin registry office with another celebration that followed a few days later in Mandelieu-la-Napoule close to Cannes. Clayton’s U2 bandmates, Bono, The Edge and Larry Mullen Jr., were in attendance.

A spokesperson for the couple has made a statement requesting that their family’s privacy be respected, “After more than 10 years of marriage, musician Adam Clayton and lawyer Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho have amicably divorced. Both will continue to be fully involved in the care of their daughter, and they request that the family’s privacy be respected.”

Clayton was formerly engaged to supermodel Naomi Campbell in 1994. He was also briefly engaged in 2006 to Suzie Smith, who was a former assistant to U2’s manager Paul McGuinness. U2 recently completed a series of residencies in Las Vegas at the Sphere, which earned them a five-star review from NME
