Ringo Starr has released his EP ‘Crooked Boy’ on streaming after its initial release on vinyl for Record Store Day. The former Beatles drummer worked with The Strokes’ guitarist Nick Valensi and songwriter Linda Perry to create the four-track EP, with Perry having worked on some of Starr’s previous tracks. Starr said in a statement that he asked Perry to write him a “rocker” for the EP, and “Gonna Need Someone” was the result, with Valensi playing guitar on all of the tracks. A video for one of the EP’s tracks, ‘Gonna Need Someone’, was also directed by Johann Rashid.
Starr has also indicated that he has written some country music and plans to release a CD with ten tracks. He also commented on the forthcoming re-release of the Beatles’ documentary ‘Let It Be’, which is due to be shown in a restored version on Disney+. Starr said that although Peter Jackson had done an “incredible job”, there was “not a lot of joy” in the documentary from his perspective.
‘Let It Be’ was first released in cinemas 54 years ago, and this new version will show previously unused tape, including performances from the rooftop. The film shows footage of the band writing and recording their 12th and final studio album of the same name in January 1969 at Twickenham Film Studios in London.
The EP has been made available for streaming on various platforms, and fans can also enjoy the new video for ‘Gonna Need Someone’. Starr has always been a firm favourite of music fans, and it’s great to see him continuing to write and release music
