ALOK shares ‘The Future Is Ancestral’ album working with artists from Brazilian indigenous communities

A new album titled ‘The Future Is Ancestral’ has been released by Brazilian musician ALOK. The project features over 50 musicians, with artists from eight different local Brazilian indigenous communities. The album is available on all digital platforms and every track tells a story of innovation, resilience, and cultural resurgence. The focus of the album is on the preservation of indigenous roots.

‘The Future Is Ancestral’ contains traditional prayers and calls for resistance, hip-hop cuts with a longing for ancestral homelands, and reflections on Brazilian cultural origin. It centres on the strength of indigenous words and there are invitations to listen to the sound of nature, and words on following the paths of ancestors and shifting perspective.

UNESCO has acknowledged the importance of ‘The Future Is Ancestral’ as a relevant action for the International Decade of Indigenous Languages. All profits from the album will go directly to the Indigenous artists and communities who co-created the project.

ALOK is honoured to serve as a platform to amplify the voices of indigenous ancestry. “‘The Future Is Ancestral’ is not just a musical project; it is a movement to reforest the imagination of our society and its perception of indigenous peoples and the importance of their presence in multiple territories,” says ALOK.

The album is available now, and interested listeners can check it out here
