Back in 2006, Sony embarked on a mission to create an advertisement that was arguably one of the most challenging to produce technologically. Dubbed “Paint,” the promotion of Bravia television brand was created externally and required numerous technical staff, producers, and pyrotechnics experts among others to bring it to life.

After scouring Europe, the production settled on a Glasgow housing estate as the ideal location to film the advert. This brought about a significant opportunity for the about-to-be-demolished estate, as it provided a temporary home for the production crew and 70,000 liters of paint that were used in the production.

Various members of the production team have come forward to offer insights on how the project was delivered. In a fascinating segment, the BBC takes us through the production process, showing how the crew managed to create one of the most technically complex adverts.

The “Paint” advert stands as a testament to what can be achieved with the right amount of personnel, combined with sophisticated technology, all working in tandem towards a common goal. It remains a spectacle that showcases the possibilities of what can be done in the world of advertising when the right minds come together to create something special.
