Mötley Crüe tell us about ‘Dogs Of War’ and being rockstars in the age of social media

Legendary rock band Mötley Crüe has finally released a highly-anticipated new single, “Dogs Of War” featuring new lead guitarist, John 5. The powerful track has been in the works for several months, having been recorded remotely in 2023 with producer Bob Rock. Having teased the song at a London show played under the alias Dögs Of War towards the end of the same year, the band continued to work on the project by drafting new ideas until “Dogs Of War” was born. Bassist and founding member Nikki Sixx described how they “had a vision of a song but then other riffs came out from there” and the majority of lyrics were written while he was watching a Netflix series called ‘A Handmaid’s Tale’. However, the single is not the only new material that Mötley Crüe has been working on. The release of “Dogs Of War” will be followed by two more songs that the band recorded during the same creative phase, at present there is no set date for their release.

The band has undergone several changes since their last studio album ‘Saints of Los Angeles’ was released in 2008. John 5’s recent addition to the line-up is not new to Sixx, who has co-written a few tracks with him since the 2006 “The Monster is Loose” by Meatloaf, a track that the duo worked on together. Fans of the Mötley Crüe will be treated to the band’s live shows in a series of summer festivals soon to be performed across the world, but they should not hold their breath for a fourth album release. Although Nikki Sixx confirmed during a recent interview that the band had hit the studio to work on new material, the band does not appear to be ready to plan a new album release anytime soon.

Mötley Crüe is one of the most celebrated rock bands on Earth, known for their dubious characters and rampant hedonism. Yet, despite their stay in the spotlight, the group has remained indifferent to public opinion, instead pursuing what they believe. According to Sixx, they are “riding it out over 43 years”, during which time the band has often found themselves red-hot or recently unfashionable or with unreturned phone calls. As for his latest style, he has opted to be transparent and share details about his family life and creative process, describing it as the best way to be an artist.

With the release of “Dogs Of War”, Mötley Crüe continues their rise to overall musical domination, retaining their old-school glam roots remains a significant part of their sound. And for fans who have waited patiently for new music from the band, this new chapter helps establish them as a band that is still relevant in today’s music market
