Dr. Rubinstein, known for her DJ sets, has released her first EP under her freshly launched label, Uppers and Downers. The three-track EP, called ‘Rubi’s Acid Spa’, took two years to complete and was inspired by dancefloor sounds and nostalgia. The record includes 303s, rolling drums, and acid basslines. The album debuted at a listening party on YouTube, along with a live Q&A, and was released on April 24.
Rubi’s Acid Spa is the launching release of Uppers and Downers, a label that strives to create rave-inspired productions and ideal rave experiences. For Dr. Rubinstein, raves were the first place she found a sense of belonging. Throughout her career as a DJ, she has been able to produce that feeling on dancefloors around the world. With the launch of her record label, she can now channel this energy into her original tracks.
Dr. Rubinstein explains that her real inspiration for her label comes from her own journey. As an undiagnosed person with autism, she was unable to find her place for most of her life. This all changed when she walked into a rave and found her sense of belonging. The artwork for the EP is available to view on the Uppers and Downers Bandcamp page.
Dr. Rubinstein credits producers Vova Livanov and Dave N.A. in bringing this project to life. The DJ says the EP is an intense tribute to all the influences that have shaped her life. Rubi’s Acid Spa includes the three tracks: Rubi’s Acid Spa, Extacid, and Ravey Intro 2
