Electronic dance musician, Porter Robinson, has announced the release of his third studio album, ‘SMILE! :D’. The album will be released on MOM+POP Records on July 26th. Robinson has announced the album’s second single, ‘Knock Yourself Out XD’, following the explosive release of “Cheerleader”.
‘Knock Yourself Out XD’ is a continuation of Robinson’s move towards a more pop-orientated sound. The song has a euphoric feel to it and Robinson sings about letting go and being your true self. In an interview with NME, the musician spoke about his fears that he would never be able to make music again. Robinson has always had a passion for making major key and sweet songs, which inspired a lot of the tracks on his previous album, ‘Nurture’.
‘Nurture’, which was released in 2021, was very well received, with NME giving it four stars. The album showed Porter’s journey as an artist and the struggles with mental health that he overcame. The album’s closing words, “Sometimes, the inner voice is encouraging, calling for you to run those final few yards / You’re nearly there – keep going, keep going; it will all be okay in the end”, reflect the entire album and Porter’s journey.
Porter Robinson and 50 other artists have contributed to Daft Punk’s upcoming book, ‘After Daft’. Robinson is an avid gamer and spoke to NME about how games have impacted his life. Star Wars Galaxies game inspired Robinson’s debut album, ‘Worlds’ when its servers closed in 2011. Robinson said, “That game will always mean a ton to me because I felt really, truly immersed in a virtual world for the first time”
