Next month, Olly Alexander, the singer from Years & Years, will make a guest appearance on EastEnders. He is set to visit Walford as part of his rehearsal process leading to his performance as the UK Eurovision Song Contest entrant. After completing rehearsals in the nearby area, Alexander will be heading to Walford’s fictional Queen Vic pub. Alexander was excited about the opportunity to feature on the UK’s most popular TV soap and said, “I’m thrilled to be making my first appearance on EastEnders and in the most iconic pub in the UK.” Additionally, he was pleased to meet some “true screen legends” and spend time on set with a “brilliant cast and crew.”
Alexander revealed that he had initially wanted to keep the appearance a secret from his mum, who is an EastEnders fan. However, it seems that he couldn’t keep it a secret for long, saying, “I wanted to surprise my mum as it’s her favourite show, but I guess the cat is out of the bag now, she’s gonna love it!”
Last month, Alexander released his entry track for the Eurovision Song Contest titled ‘Dizzy’, co-written with electronic producer Danny L Harle, who has previously worked with Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, and Caroline Polachek. Many listeners noticed similarities between the track and the Pet Shop Boys’ 1987 hit ‘It’s A Sin’, which Alexander has covered himself. When asked about the observation, the band’s Neil Tennant remarked, “When I read people saying it sounded similar, I immediately listened to it, and I don’t think it does.” Nonetheless, he does believe that Pet Shop Boys sound different from what everyone else thinks they do.
Alexander’s appearance on EastEnders is eagerly anticipated by his fans who are excited to see him perform his latest track and perhaps catch a glimpse of one of their favourite stars on their most beloved show. His visit to Walford’s Queen Vic pub will undoubtedly be significant not only for his fans but also for the show’s cast and crew
