Anne Hathaway remembers “gross” audition where she had to kiss 10 men

Anne Hathaway recently opened up about a “gross” audition from the early 2000s where she had to “make out with 10 men.” According to Hathaway, the experience was done as a chemistry test for the audition. At the time, she said it was normal to ask actors to kiss other actors to test chemistry, but as she recalled, “which is actually the worst way to do it.”

Despite the situation, Hathaway said it wasn’t an intentional “power play,” and nobody was trying to harm her. But, she admitted to pretending that she was excited and got on with it because she was young and didn’t want to be labeled as difficult. Today, however, Hathaway pointed out that we know better than to do chemistry tests in such an inappropriate manner.

On a brighter note, Hathaway gave a recent example of a more suitable chemistry test during auditions for her most recent film, The Idea of You. For this romantic comedy movie, Hathaway asked actors to choose a song that they believed their character would love, which Hathaway’s character would put on to get them to dance. Then, the actors would do a short improvisation.

The actor who snagged the part, Nicholas Galitzine, chose an Alabama Shakes song for his audition. “Nobody was showing off. Nobody was trying to get the gig. We were just in a space dancing. I looked over and Michael Showalter, our director, was beaming. Spark!” Hathaway remarked.

In other news, Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal could appear together in the upcoming Netflix series Beef. According to Deadline Hollywood, the series is still in the early stages of casting, but both actors are being considered. The second season is reportedly looking to begin production as early as late summer or early fall.
