Police in London have arrested a 56-year-old man on suspicion of child kidnapping, after a nine-year-old girl became separated from her family in Knightsbridge. On Monday at 14:44 BST, police received a report of a missing child after she was last seen in Brompton Road. The girl was circulated to officers in Knightsbridge after an image of her in the company of a man was taken from CCTV. The man was stopped by officers at 17:40 in Old Court Place, West London and was still with the girl, the police said.
At present, the arrested man is in police custody and the girl and her family are being supported by specialist officers. In a statement, the force said that detectives believe the incident is an isolated one with no other persons involved. As of now, the girl has been reunited with her family.
Knightsbridge is well-known for its high-end shopping in and around the Harrods department store. Given the busy shopping environment, it is no surprise that such incidents, including child kidnapping, are reported often. Nevertheless, the metropolitan police department is always at hand to control and take care of such situations.
