Lady Bushra, also known as Amir Dean, is making waves as one of the most prominent British Asian drag artists in the country. Amir first introduced the world to Lady Bushra four years ago, and has since traveled across the globe, performing in comedy clubs and cabarets from Liverpool to Los Angeles. Earlier this week, Lady Bushra’s first UK tour – Saree About It – kicked off at Manchester’s Frog and Bucket comedy club.
Growing up gay in Bradford, Lady Bushra has carved out a unique space for herself in the British drag scene, representing South Asians and breaking boundaries along the way. She recently sat down with the BBC to discuss her personal journey and the art of drag, including tips on the best make-up techniques.
Despite the challenges of being a drag artist – from dealing with negative reactions to the sheer physical and mental effort required in performing – Lady Bushra remains dedicated to her craft.
