aespa announce first studio album, ‘Armageddon’

A trailer for K-pop girl group aespa’s upcoming first studio album, ‘Armageddon,’ has been released. The album is set to feature 10 tracks with offerings of “energetic hip-hop to bright and cheerful dance scores, rhythmical modern pop, and ballad songs.” Aespa will be releasing a pre-release single called ‘Supernova’ on May 13 at 6 pm KST in the lead-up to Armageddon, which is scheduled to release on May 27 at 6 pm KST. The new album is expected to showcase aespa’s deeper musical world and message and the narrative of the second season of aespa’s worldview that expands into the multiverse beyond the real and digital worlds.

The trailer gives a sneak peek of what appears to be a mysterious crop circle with an unknown symbol etched onto the earth. Fans eagerly wait for the full-length album as SM Entertainment describes it as an album “filled with aespa’s deeper musical world and message.” The album will supposedly continue the narrative of the second season of aespa’s worldview, beyond the real and digital worlds.

The mysterious new album will mark aespa’s comeback since November 2023’s mini-album ‘Drama.’ The mini-album included “Trick or Trick,” “Don’t Blink,” “Hot Air Balloon,” and more, as well as their previously released English single ‘Better Things.’ Despite only debuting in November 2020, aespa has become one of the fastest-growing rookie K-pop groups, known for their unique concept of the “Avatar” universe that links the real world with the virtual world.

In other news, Cherry Bullet, another K-pop girl group, has disbanded, with four of the group’s members choosing to part ways with their agency, FNC Entertainment. However, the remaining members will continue to work under their label for solo projects. Meanwhile, aespa aims to keep the momentum going with their highly anticipated first studio album, Armageddon, aiming to provide new musical themes to their dedicated fanbase
