After a hiatus of three decades, Drop Nineteens made a triumphant comeback by performing at The Atlantis in Washington D.C. The band regaled the audience with their captivating performance that included songs from their 2023 album, ‘Hard Light,’ as well as popular tunes from their earlier works. During the concert, Drop Nineteens also covered Madonna’s 1984 track, ‘Angel,’ and Lana Del Rey’s ‘White Dress’ from her 2021 LP, ‘Chemtrails Over the Country Club.’ They concluded their set by debuting their 1992 song, ‘Kick The Tragedy.’
There were ample reasons for fans to celebrate the return of Drop Nineteens. Spectators used social media platforms to express their joy as they attended the band’s first concert in 30 years. The Twitter handle of Matt Beinart@MBeinart22 described the event as ‘pretty special’ and shared some pictures of the mesmerizing performance. Another handle @headytopper125 tweeted about the band’s live debut of their song, ‘Kick The Tragedy.’
The band’s playlist for the evening included several of their favorite hits, such as ‘Ease It Halen’, ‘Winona’, ‘Delaware’, ‘White Dress’ and ‘Gal.’ Last year, Drop Nineteens had announced a US comeback tour comprising of six dates, which was initially supposed to take place in October 2023. However, the tour was pushed back to 2024 due to personal and practical reasons, and the band announced their reluctance to perform live at the time. Reflecting on their comeback, singer and songwriter Greg Ackell explained the sentiments behind their album ‘Hard Light’ and how it was meant to be an honest, reflective album that represents their current selves. Greg also added that the primary driving force behind their reunion was their curiosity to find out how they would sound today, and the only way to find out was to come together once again.
