Cannonball Arts, the team behind Bumbershoot Arts & Music Festival, is planning to open a new music venue in Downtown Seattle next year. The venue is set to occupy an enormous 66,000 sq. ft of space across two blocks, on the site of a former Bed, Bath & Beyond store. Although the project is ambitious in both scale and scope, work is already underway, with an expected opening date of Spring 2025.
The team behind the project hopes to “revitalise” Downtown Seattle and introduce “the next generation of makers, producers and curators”. Cannonball Arts secured a five-year lease on the venue and aims to create a year-round platform to celebrate the wealth of creativity in the Pacific Northwest. The venue is set to span two floors of “contemporary and performing arts space”, featuring a variety of music and visual arts performances.
Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, a partner in the Cannonball Arts venture, is delighted to be a part of expanding Bumbershoot from a weekend event to a year-round activity. Seattle residents can look forward to a very diverse programming experience for communities around the Pacific Northwest to enjoy for years to come, says Muckleshoot President/CEO Joe Olujic.
Greg Lundgren, co-producer and creative director of New Rising Sun, the Seattle-based team of visual artists and promoters that run Bumbershoot, adds that Cannonball Arts gives Bumbershoot a new dimension, with a year-round space to showcase the creative talents of the region. Recent performers at Bumbershoot include Fatboy Slim, Major League Djz and Uncle Waffles
