Laufey has released a new short film for her song ‘Goddess’, which has been directed by Celine Song. The video features Laufey alongside William G. Hardy and was shot in Brooklyn, New York on 35mm film.
Speaking about the video, Laufey said that it was an honour to work with Celine, who had such a clear vision with her work. Laufey further added that Celine’s ideas around ‘Goddess’ harmonised perfectly with the narrative of the song. This made the partnership seamless and Laufey felt grateful to collaborate with someone whose work she admired so much.
One of Celine’s films, ‘Past Lives’, was the film of the year in 2023 for NME, receiving a five-star rating. In 2023, Celine was known primarily for her work as a film director with ‘Past Lives’ being one of her most critical hits at that time. Laufey told NME in a cover feature that she is keen on bringing jazz to a wider audience. Her vision is to do for jazz music what Taylor Swift did for country music.
Referring to her Grammy award, which she won in 2021, Laufey said that meeting the other artists was the most shocking part of Grammy week for her. She saw artists she listened to and talked to them, and they knew who she was. Meeting them felt beyond her, and she felt part of a community.
The video is available on YouTube, giving fans another chance to watch Laufey in action. Speaking about her work on ‘Goddess,’ Laufey added that it was a collaboration that she felt lucky to be a part of and hoped to work with Celine again in the future
