In Leicester Crown Court on Tuesday, an 18-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering a grandfather he had never met. The murder of Gerald Wickes was carried out by Daniel Rounce, who entered a house where Mr. Wickes was visiting his ex-wife and son, on February 22, 2023. Rounce was sentenced to a minimum of 25 years in prison and was also convicted of possessing a bladed article in a public place.
Before plunging a knife into Mr. Wickes’s chest, Daniel Rounce was questioned by his ex-partner and the victim. The court was told that Rounce had armed himself with a knife and followed Mr. Wickes’s former partner through an unlocked door. According to the CCTV footage, the defendant had been “scoping out” the area and “psyching himself up” before he attacked Mr. Wickes.
