At this year’s Coachella festival, Sublime performed their classic track ‘Romeo’ for the first time in 25 years. The ska punk band played with frontman Bradley Nowell’s son, Jakob, who was performing at the same age his father was when he passed away from a heroin overdose in 1996 at the age of 28. Original Sublime members, Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson, also joined Jakob on stage at the festival.

Fans were ecstatic to see Sublime back in action and were blown away by Jakob’s musical ability. Journalist Suzy Exposito tweeted, “I’m getting CHILLS watching Sublime: The Next Generation. Where has Jakob Nowell been all this time?!?!”, while another user wrote, “Watching Bradley Nowells son Jakob Nowell play Coachella with Sublime right now is some legendary ****.”

Sublime’s set-list included many of their greatest hits such as ‘Garden Grove,’ ‘What I Got,’ and ‘Santeria.’ Jakob even teased the possibility of bringing out Lana Del Rey for a performance of ‘Doin Time.’ The band capped off their performance with ‘Santeria,’ leaving the crowd wanting more.

In other Coachella news, The Last Dinner Party also made their debut at the festival, and Vampire Weekend gave a surprise performance with appearances from Paris Hilton and Abraham Lincoln. For more updates, check out NME’s live blog for Coachella 2024
