The new Amy Winehouse biopic, titled Back To Black, was released today, featuring an original song by Nick Cave. Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, the film explores the life and career of the iconic London singer, with the lead role portrayed by Marisa Abela. Added to the movie’s soundtrack, titled ‘Back To Black: Songs from the Original Motion Picture,’ is a new original track called ‘Song for Amy,’ sung by Cave.
Cave worked closely with long-time collaborator Warren Ellis to compose and record the film’s score. The album is set for release via UMR/Island Records on May 17 and features three original recordings from Winehouse’s debut, ‘Frank,’ and three songs from her multi-award-winning LP, ‘Back To Black.’ Apart from the lead singer’s works, five other songs from artists that Winehouse saw as her inspiration have been included in the album.
The songs in the movie include ‘Back To Black,’ ‘Me & Mr Jones,’ ‘Love is a Losing Game,’ ‘Rehab,’ and ‘Tears Dry on Their Own.’ The soundtrack will be available on 140g black vinyl, limited edition peach-colored vinyl (D2C exclusive), double vinyl, single CD, and double CD formats and comes with a printed inner sleeve featuring a personal note from the director.
Mark Ronson, a close friend and producer of the late singer, recently opened up about his thoughts on the film, saying that he had read its script. “The only thing I know about the film is I know Sam quite well, and I read the script and I feel what it did really nicely was… I was reminded of [Winehouse’s] humor and it really caught that well,” he said.
