Michael Jackson biopic trailer goes down well with critics at CinemaCon

The upcoming biopic based on the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, has recently unveiled an exclusive sneak peek that has received positive reviews. The film, titled “Michael”, is being directed by Antoine Fuqua, known for his work in movies like “Training Day”, “The Equalizer”, and “Brooklyn’s Finest”. It will feature Michael Jackson’s own nephew, Jaafar Jackson, in the lead role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the trailer kicks off with the Jackson 5 performing their famous hit song “ABC” on television, followed by a clip of Michael performing “Man in the Mirror” during a concert in the 90s. The trailer also highlights Jackson as a masked figure being persistently pursued by both fans and paparazzi. Additionally, the clip showcases Jaafar as Michael, highlighting his striking features and his legendary dancing and stage presence.

Graham King, the project’s producer, revealed the biopic would feature more than 30 songs, and the film’s length would be extended to give justice to the music star’s story. “Behind the unrelenting scrutiny and the accusations and the blinding media spotlight, he was simply a man. A man who lived a very complicated life. The movie will get into all of it,” King said.

While “Michael” is set to receive a theatrical release in the United States on April 18, 2025, a UK release date has not yet been announced. The film will also star Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson and Miles Teller as manager John Branca. The trailer for the movie has yet to be released to the public, and King has stated that they are only halfway through the filming process.

In other news, the children of the late pop icon recently attended the premiere of the West End production, “MJ The Musical”. The play has been a hit in the United States, garnering 10 Tony award nominations. Meanwhile, an original “Thriller” jacket from 1983 was recently made available to purchase through an online auction, with an expected price of up to $500,000 (£400,000)
