West Yorkshire Police are currently searching for Habibur Masum in relation to the fatal stabbing of 27-year-old Kulsuma Akter in Bradford. Mr Masum is described as a slim Asian man and was last seen wearing a duffle coat with three large horizontal lines, grey tracksuit bottoms and maroon trainers. Witnesses report he got off a bus at about 15:42 and walked in the direction of Bradford Moor Park. Detectives have warned Masum is armed and dangerous, and have urged anyone who sees him to call 999 immediately.
Ms Akter was found seriously injured at about 15:21 on Saturday when officers were called to Westgate near to the junction with Drewton Road. She was taken to hospital but later died. Her baby, who was with her during the attack, was unharmed. Police say Ms Akter and Mr Masum were known to each other, but have not confirmed the nature of their relationship.
A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, and raids have taken place in Oldham – where Mr Masum is also from – as well as in the Burnley and Chester areas. Both West Yorkshire Police and Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as both had had prior contact with Ms Akter and Mr Masum.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Assistant Chief Constable Damien Miller said, “I believe Masum is still in the country at this moment in time,” after confirming airports and ports had been warned to be on the lookout for him. Police have released footage showing the last known sighting of Mr Masum, and are appealing for any taxi drivers who may have picked him up on Saturday afternoon to come forward
