Ice Spice has revealed that she’s been putting her new album to the “car test.” The rapper, whose real name is Isis Gaston, recently appeared on First We Feast’s Hot Ones, where she was asked whether her tracks needed to pass the dreaded car test. She replied that not only had she been blasting her new album in her car, but she’d done so at full volume. “It passed, thankfully it passed,” she said.

Gaston also spoke about the making of her album, Y2K, revealing that every song she worked on for the album made the final cut. Speaking about the process, she said, “each song that I work on I really try to make it good enough to put out…Every time I work on a song, basically, I’m like, ‘This is gonna be released.’ That hasn’t always been in the case but for this album process, that was the case.”

Y2K is set for release this year, though a release date and track list has not yet been revealed. In January, the rapper confirmed that she had a “crazy collaboration” planned for the record, though declined to say who she’d worked with.

The album follows Ice Spice’s January 2023 EP, “Like..?” which featured hits like “Munch (Feelin’ U)” and “In Ha Mood.” NME awarded the EP four stars, with Thomas Smith praising the rapper’s sardonic delivery and level-headed confidence
