Serbian-born, NYC-based artist X-Coast has released his latest single, ‘Marathon Man’, on Higher Ground. The house-meets-rave track is inspired by early noughties culture and encapsulates the spirit of European rave culture from the ’90s. Cizmic, who goes by X-Coast, takes a DIY approach to his music, from self-directed videos, creating genre weaving releases, and very specific 3D internet art aesthetics. He perceives X-Coast as an ‘island’ that he serves as its human host.
“When writing ‘Marathon Man’, I was inspired by a mix my friend recorded in 2003 at Paradiso Club in Novi Sad, Serbia,” explains Cizmic. “The melody was mixed in with percussion-driven tribal techno, and it struck me. I needed to write a track like this. The chords with added pitch bend are on the edge of being off-key, and that’s where the magic is. The result is an optimistic feeling as if we were preparing for a big sports competition, like the Olympics… hence the name.”
‘Marathon Man’ is available now on Higher Ground. X-Coast’s fans can check out the latest work here.
