Authorities are searching for a 25-year-old man named Habibur Masum after he is suspected of fatally stabbing a 27-year-old woman who was pushing a pram in the Westgate area of Bradford on Saturday. Every police force in the country is currently looking for the man, who is said to be “very dangerous”. While some progress has been made in the investigation, Masum remains at large. Allison Lowe, West Yorkshire’s deputy mayor for policing and crime, confirmed that the police were looking for “a very complex investigation” and that all forces in the country have been working together to locate Masum.
CCTV footage shows that Masum is from the Oldham area and is likely to have links to Burnley and Chester. The footage also shows him wearing a duffle coat with three horizontal lines, light blue or grey tracksuit bottoms with a small black emblem on the left pocket and maroon trainers. A knife was recovered from the scene, though it remains unclear as to whether or not Masum was armed.
Ms Lowe has urged anyone who sees Masum to contact the emergency services immediately and not to approach him. She also reassured the community that the incident was not a random killing and that Masum and the victim were known to one another. The victim has not yet been formally identified, but her family has been informed and is being supported by officers.
The community has expressed shock and distress following the woman’s death, and there has been a significant police presence in Bradford’s city center over the weekend. Despite this, the police have stated that these types of incidents are rare and that Masum is highly unlikely to be a risk to anyone else in Bradford or West Yorkshire.
This remains an ongoing investigation, and the police have asked anyone with any information relating to the case to come forward. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external sites containing more information on the story
